How much do U.S. adults think they need to save for retirement?Gabriel Cortes / CNBCSource:

The horizontal bars show the average amounts that U.S. adults think they need to save at least $1.3 million dollars for retirement along with the average amounts they currently have saved, broken down by age bracket.Northwestern Mutual online survey of 2,740 U.S. adults conducted in 2023.

Gen Z is the most confident they'll be financially prepared for retirement when the time comes. Older generations are more pessimistic – more than half of Gen X say they won't be ready, and nearly half of Millennials and Boomers+ (not yet retired) say the same....

I'm 26 and I have a friend who is also 26, and we both recently started new jobs. This friend earns around 85k/mo iirc and is doing well for himself.

One day, nagkita kami to hang out. Naturally, he brought up work and sabi nya na di daw masyadong mabigat yung work nya, and he expects to get xxxxx amount of incentives in a few months.

Tinanong nya din ako about work so I told him about it, and that I'm earning around 40k. He commented, "Parang ang baba naman." I said it was okay, as long as I have a job. Tapos he asked about what tasks I have. I told him what my role requires me to do, and when I mentioned na may answering phone calls yung job description ko, tumawa sya. Not just a light chuckle, pero as in tinawanan nya talaga. I know him well enough to be sure of this. He even joked na "Pano ka mag-calls? Sample nga"

Jokes like that I used to be ok with, but at that moment na turn-off ako sa kaibigan ko.

I kinda felt bad, kasi alam ko naman how he makes fun of taking calls (call center jobs in general) for being an entry-level job na mababa ang sahod and micromanaged as hell, (based on experience lang kasi ganyan yung work namin dati pareho) and idk what about taking calls is so funny now.

I defended myself by saying na hindi naman call center yung setup ng work ko and I don't mind taking calls, since matagal na namin sya ginagawa it should be easy.

Is it normal that I feel bad? I'm not insecure about my salary and role and am actually really happy for my friend. But I feel bad about being laughed at just because di pa ako ganun "kalayo" sa career ko and I'm making slow progress.
